Speaking during the Executive Committee on Monday, Operations Manager for Parks and Recreation Cory Oakes requested and received approval to revitalize and add to Moose Jaw's Rosedale Cemetery.

The work would include adding 2 new columbariums to the cemetery.

"The columbariums are basically niches where you can put ashes after cremation. They are located I believe when you enter the Rosedale Cemetery; they are to the east corner just off of the road there."

Oakes talked about the new columbarium that will be installed.

"The two new ones that we are purchasing have 72 niches each. The two existing outdoor columbariums contain 64 niches each."

Oakes estimates all of the work should cost a total of about $65,000, and is expecting to start work once they recieve quotes back from contractors.

As for the patio, he said it will be receiving a bit of a face lift.

"We are currently looking at removing all of the existing brick which is kind of deteriorated and sunk, causing tripping hazards and such. Looking to replace it with a little more of an appealing look of possibly stamped concrete."

"The whole purpose of this is obviously to create more space for the residents of Moose Jaw and to provide a more welcoming and tranquil place for people to reflect and visit their family members."

The Rosedale Cemetery is located at the corner of Caribou Street West and Thatcher Drive.
