With several weeks left of winter, it's best to be prepared for any situation you may encounter when driving a vehicle on the highways. Temperatures have been calculated as low as -40 degrees Celsius with the wind chill which has caused for several 'Extreme Cold Warnings' and multiple vehicle breakdowns.

The most important thing to keep in mind when driving on a highway is to make sure you leave enough gas in your vehicle to arrive safely.

There are multiple items to carry in your vehicle that can help you through certain situations that leave you in terrible spots.

Here is a list of items to carry and why they may be effective:

1.) A cell phone with a charger. Of course a dead cell phone is no good to anyone, but with a charger you have the ability to turn your phone back on and call for help within minutes.

2.) A shovel. In case you need to get rid of deep snow, a shovel would be the most effective way to accomplish this task.

3.) Flashlight with extra batteries. Long dark nights are common in winter, and a light is needed to see which way to go.

4.) Booster cables. In case of a dead battery, you will have the ability to start your car back up with the help of another vehicle.

5.) Food/water. You never know how long you might be stuck in a bad spot, and food and water are essential items.

6.) Blankets/extra jackets. Keeping warm is one of the most important things you have to do in the freezing temperatures.
