The Village of Riverhurst will once again be celebrating pulse crops in Saskatchewan at the third annual Bean Festival on Saturday.

It all kicks off at 8 a.m. with the food concession opening, with breakfast supplied by Hutton House Bed and Breakfast with pulse-based foods. There is also a beer garden that will be open throughout the day that will serve lentil beer.

At 9 a.m., those interested in learning more about pulse crops can go on a field tour.

“There will be speakers out there in the field, so you can have a Q and A time for a little more information,” said organizer Terry Brennan.

Entries for the culinary contest will also begin around 9 a.m., with contestants making their best dishes with pulse ingredients. The winners will be named at noon.

The tradeshow and marketplace open at 11 a.m. at the arena and will run until 4 p.m.

Outside the arena at noon will be the ‘Bean’ a Classic Show and Shine for folks to show off their classic cars.

“We have a nice round-up of cars coming in for the day and live music will start with pretty local entertainment,” Brennan said.

Sponsors have put together gift bags for participants in the car show.

The entertainment starts at 11 a.m. with Central Butte’s Corrine Newton, followed by One Eye Cat from Swift Current at noon. Eyebrow’s Jolie Blue closes out the show from 3 to 6 p.m.
