Snow has been falling in Moose Jaw and surrounding area on and off since the weekend, and there may be an end in sight soon.

The snow will taper off by Wednesday evening, and sunshine is predicted to move, however, the cold will persist which is why residents are being warned about taking care of themselves during these unfavourable conditions.

According to officials, frostbite can occur within 15 minutes to exposed skin. Humans, as well as animals, are at risk of developing frostbite.

"If you feel numbness and then you see a lot of discoloration or persistent swelling than that is certainly an indicator for you to seek medical attention," explained Dr. David Torr with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

He added that if you see frostbite on your skin, avoid rubbing the area to warm up, dry, or even using lotion as it could cause more nerve damage.

For those who must be outside in the extreme cold, Dr.Torr advised having something to eat and drink in the morning to get the metabolism started can help prevent frostbite.
