We've had some crazy weather these past few weeks, and many may be wondering, where are our rinks?

The cold snap had many sharpening their skates and getting ready for the ice, but with the warm weather it has been hard for the city to get these rinks ready to go.

"There is some ice on those rinks, and again, it hasn't gotten too warm throughout the day and we've been able to get water on, as we said, in the mornings when temperatures have typically stayed at zero or below," said the City's Communications Manager, Craig Hemingway. "So yes, some melting will occur through the day and we've lost some of that precipitation to evaporation, but there are bases of ice on those rinks."

City workers had planned to begin pouring and getting the ice ready last week, but that plan fell through as soon as we hit temperatures above zero.

The City plans to have all rinks ready before everyone gets off school and work for the holiday break.

"The goal is to have them operating for families to use over the Christmas break, and if things go well and Mother Nature cooperates," said Hemingway. "That could happen around the 22nd, 23rd, 24th but there's no guarantees until that weather arrives."

The City will also try to give all rinks equal attention, not only in getting them ready to go but also in upkeep, but, since the Oval is the most popular skating destination, they'll be getting that one ready to go first.
