Moose Jaw's citizens may soon be able to depend on ridesharing apps.

A ridesharing bylaw will be coming back to Council in the near future after a period of public consultation.

Mayor Fraser Tolmie says it will be a positive for the city of Moose Jaw to get Uber and Lyft into the city for ridesharing.

“The City of Moose Jaw right now is just wrapping up the consultation process with the bylaw, so we’ll be having something coming out fairly soon,” said Tolmie. “I think the sooner we move on this the better. It helps out, people able to get to and (from).”

The two main ridesharing apps, Uber and Lyft, don't service cities under 50,000 people, he said.

Tolmie said the companies have been reached out to in order to come up with partnerships.

“It’s a new territory for us to go forward in, and so we’re going to look at it and see what we can come up with for the citizens,” Tolmie said. “It’s going to be its own industry but there’s a solution for people who want to go out and they need a lift.”

It's a positive thing to come to Moose Jaw to be able to modernize and use an app to get rides, Tolmie said.
