The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced Monday morning that starting September 17, all fans attending games at Mosaic Stadium will need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

The following statement was released from the team:

"Throughout the course of the pandemic the Club has relied on the expertise of provincial health officials to guide it in all matters of public health including the re-opening of Mosaic Stadium to fans in early August.

We all shared a special moment when our Green and White ran out of the tunnel for the first time in two years. At the time, cases in the province were low. But as those numbers continue to rise, primarily amongst those unvaccinated, we felt we needed to act. So, with the support of public health officials, we've decided we will require proof of full vaccination or a negative test to be presented at our home games with a targeted start date of September 17.

More details to follow in the coming weeks and in the meantime, we encourage everyone eligible to please get vaccinated."

Those under the age of 12 who would like to attend a game are exempt from the requirement.

In a media release, president and CEO of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Craig Reynolds, said “In consultations with local medical health officers this past week, they voiced their support to begin requiring proof of vaccination at Roughrider games. After speaking with our stakeholders, including the City of Regina — our stadium owner, REAL — our stadium operator, and the CFL, we decided that this is the right decision for our Club and for our fans."

Negative COVID-19 tests taken within 48 hours of the start of the game will also be accepted for those who are partially vaccinated, or those unable to receive the vaccine due to medical or religious reasons.

The team has said they will be working on how to accept proof of vaccinations in the next couple of weeks.
