For their third year, Habitat for Humanity Moose Jaw held the 5km Colour Run in Wakamow Valley. The fun run gives an exciting new way for people of all ages to join in a fundraising effort for a local cause, especially the schools.

"Vanier Collegiate actually in our first year stepped up to the plate and had a large group come in. From that came out school challenge, so this year we also had St. Margaret participate in that as well," Heidi Tiller, a member of the Habitat's Fund Development Committee explained. "So [the students] definitely help bring the numbers up and it's really good to see the youth in our community getting involved in a fundraising effort."

With a number of sponsors joining in to support the event, and our local politicians all coming to support the run, it was a success for Habitat.

In total, over 200 participants came out for the event, which was down from last year, but Tiller accounted that to how frigid the weather was. While the final total isn't in just yet, they believe they managed to raise over $10,000 at this year's run.

"All this money goes towards building homes right here in Moose Jaw, every single cent is put back into the efforts," Tiller said. "Building a home, as everyone knows, has quite a few expenses, so this money raised in this colour run will be going towards our ninth build."

The current eighth build, over on the 1100 block on 1st Ave NE, is almost complete. Habitat expects to be turning over the keys to the deserving family next month.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that builds affordable and decent homes for families in need, who pay back the organization through volunteer hours and interest-free mortgages.
