The first open house for Phase 4 of the Cast Iron Watermain Replacement Program took place Thursday in council chambers with city engineers.

Homeowners came with questions about what might happen to their trees, the payment plan for the nearly 2/3 of the work they'll have to pay for, and when the work will be done.

Bob Craig, an engineer with the city who has been through this a few times before, was able to field many of the residents complex questions.

“This is the fourth phase of the project, we’ve done open houses on I believe every phase,” said Craig. “I’ve been involved in two and a half phases. So we were kind of anticipating many of the questions and we have information ready to go for these people.”

There were about 30 people who came to the open house, with another scheduled for June 6.

Craig said there will be further opportunity to speak to city officials with any questions residents might have about any part of the process.

“I'd recommend if you can, there’s another open house on June 6 at 6:30 in council chambers at city hall,” said Craig. “If you can make it out to that, great. If not, I would recommend contacting the engineering department and asking for me directly, and we can have a conversation if they have any questions.”

The work is contracted to be done by Sept. 30.
