There have been quite a few upgrades to provincial parks across the Prairies over the last number of years, which could be a reason as to why campgrounds and lakes are filled with people in the summertime.

With so much time and money being invested into our provincial park jewels, many are surprised with how many activities and amenities are offered at each park.

"We have invested millions of dollars into park infrastructure, we have invested in park programming to make the parks interesting and vibrant places, and there have been a number of investments to make sure that our parks stay in the condition that Saskatchewan residents expect them to be in," stated Robin Campese, Executive Director of Visitor Experiences with Sask Parks.

She noted that the goal each year is to attract more and more people to our provincial parks - whether that be locals headed to the nearest lake for the weekend, or people from out of province and out of country calling Saskatchewan home for the weekend or week.

"So far we are trending in a similar fashion, so definitely over the last number of years our visitation statistic has been on the rise. People really enjoy getting out to the parks and visiting them, particularity in July and August," said Campese.

"Well that's what we are hoping for this year, just because we have so many activities going on and there is so many different things that families and groups of friends can sort of take in and take advantage of. So we are really hoping people get out to the parks."

Many of the upgrades and new programming have been highlighted this week in particular, as it's currently Saskatchewan Parks Week.
