Earlier this week, high school students from around the city got to experience what real life budgeting was and how it works.

Students went around to different stations where volunteers gave them a monthly income and a list of monthly expenses to budget for.

That event was called "reality check", and it was hosted by the Moose Jaw Chamber of commerce.

Kayden Hill is a ninth-grade student from Peacock Collegiate and detailed what he learned from the experience.

"I think I just learned that adult life is a lot more expensive than we thought and that I should learn how to budget my money early on so that I don't struggle when I'm older."

Another ninth-grade student from Peacock was Katie Newberry who described her new appreciation for budgeting.

"By the end of it, I kind of had to thank my parents for all the stuff they put towards me. I thought it was a very important experience because we got to find out what really matters most and what we can live without."

The event was held at both Peacock and Central.
