You may be surprised to hear, but Real Estate listings in the province were actually up in March compared to that of previous years.

March saw just under 12,000 active listings across the province. The average for this time of year is just about 12,300.

However, not surprisingly, new listings in the last 6 weeks are down.

CEO of the Saskatchewan Real Estate Associaton, Jason Yochim, says if you're in the market for a new house there are still ways to meet with an agent - with some stipulations however.

"When it comes to sales or showings, we've classified for our members what we consider essential transactions, knowing that even in the current state there are some transactions that are important to occur. We ask that only qualified buyers be taken out to view a property and only those that are essential in the decision making of the transaction be in the showings."

Yochim says that now is a great time to be a buyer, with low-interest rates and low prices. While we remain under a state of emergency, all public open houses have been canceled. Though there are still lots of ways to check out listings at home too.

"A lot of our listings have dozens of pictures of the property but there are also things like virtual tours. Some of our members have been doing things like Facebook Live open houses where they will walk through a property themselves and put it on social media. We're being innovative in trying to find ways to answer the needs of the consumer, but without putting people at risk."

Yochim says the association is anticipating a decline in activity in April, but they are expecting a solid rebound after restrictions are lifted.
