The RCMP honour their fallen members Sunday with a National Memorial Service at the RCMP Academy in Regina.

The name of Constable Francis Bertrand Deschênes is being added to the RCMP Cenotaph, Honour Roll Book and Memorial Wall this year, as he passed away September 12th of last year when he was struck by a vehicle while helping a motorist change their flat tire on the Trans-Canada Highway near Memramcook, New Brunswick.

The Memorial Service honours regular members, special constables, auxiliary constables and civilian members who have lost their lives in response to an operational policing duty. In total, 239 members have fallen in the line of duty since the creation of the North-West Mounted Police in 1873.
