All eyes are on the sky today in southern Saskatchewan as the potential for serious weather grows.

Accuweather is predicating some high winds and the chance of tornado activity this afternoon while Environment Canada is showing a rainfall warning for southern Saskatchewan, thunderstorm warning for Assiniboia and a tornado watch for the extreme southeast, including Estevan and Weyburn

Drew Lerner of World Weather Inc has a different take on things.

"The areas that are going to be more favorable for the heavier rainfall will be to the west of Coronach and over to Maple Creek, northward to the Rosetown, Swift Current and Outlook areas. Eventually a secondary of stronger thunderstorms will evolve around the Melville or Yorkton areas working north towards Hudson Bay."

The main system is bringing heavy amounts of rain to the entire bottom half of the province with a rainfall warning in affect.

Lerner is watching close.

"We'll see widespread rain totals running from across the region from 20-40 mm and there will be some local totals that will run from 40-65 mm. There could be a couple spots that get even more but they will be limited to just a couple RM districts."

And then there's the more dangerous system that's working towards southeast Saskatchewan, as Lerner explains.

"There is a risk of severe thunderstorms across parts of the region. I would favor the central, east-central and northeastern parts of the province for that, with large hail, damaging wind, and maybe even a tornado or two over the next 24-30 hours."

A thunderstorm warning has been issued for Assiniboia and a tornado watch for the extreme southeast, including Estevan and Weyburn.
