The news last year came as a surprise to many but maybe no one more than the employees themselves. The provincial government is being forced to pay 95 former STC employees more than 8 weeks worth of salaries in compensation after an arbitrator has ruled the government broke the rules.

The decision shows the province violated the Canadian Labour Code when they announced the shutdown of STC in the budget but they didn't give the bus service employees enough notice that they were losing their jobs.

The shutdown was a cost savings measure in a highly unpopular budget.
