COVID-19 has had far reaching effects across the nation, and the world, with many businesses having to switch to more of an online focus to keep things running.

Because of that, more people will be surfing the internet visiting those places, which makes internet safety more important now than ever.

Mike Gardiner is the owner of Gentle Giant Tech Assistance in Moose Jaw, he explains how you can protect your computer from viruses.

"Viruses are fairly easily taken care of by normal programs that are built into the operating system like Windows Defender, and those are very good these days at taking care of viruses, and they're free. Also Macs have kind of always avoided the virus thing, but any virus they come across - Apple is fairly good at taking care of it."

Gardnier added that nowadays, viruses are less common, saying that malware is more common.

"There's one program that stands above the rest for getting rid of all those types of malware, and that's malwarebytes. They offer this free version that allows you to scan and remove whatever it finds for free."

A number of scams floating around the internet have already been reported by the RCMP and government agencies. Coming through both email, and text, the messages promise Canadians a deposit from the Canada Relief Fund. If you receive either of those, do not provide any information to the sender, and don't click any links sent through the message.
