On September 1st, when school starts for Moose Jaw, most students will be traveling into the new academic year on those big, yellow buses. However, some of the Holy Trinity School Division bus passengers will be going on propane-powered buses, rather than the traditional diesel ones.

Director of Education for Holy Trinity Geri Hall said that they added to propane school buses to their fleet last year on a trial basis and were such a hit with drivers and students alike that they, not only decided to make them a permanent part of the division, but also added a third this for the 2016/2017 school year.

Hall says that the buses are not only cost effective, but provide some benefits to those riding in them.

"They... heat-up... more quickly in the winter time, which is also an excellent element when we have these very cold days".

She also mentioned that the feedback from the drivers were a contributing factor.

"They said it's a smoother ride, a quieter ride, and it actually meets our efficiency goals. They are as safe as any bus that would be out there on the road".

Holy Trinity says each bus will save them between $3-$4000 per year.
