The flags may be coming down but the past seven days were a success, as Moose Jaw Pride wrapped up Pride Week in the Friendly City on Saturday.

Beginning on July 22nd, MJ Pride flew the LGBTQ flag to celebrate sexual diversity and a Transgender flag to celebrate gender diversity at the Crescent Park, where they flew until Saturday's events in the park.

The whole week was packed with events each evening, and each event saw a great turnout from the community,

"[The planning,] it's crazy. It's like you think you have everything ready and then those last minute details really get you," explained MJ Pride's Summer Student Events Coordinator, Annah McDonald. "It's been really great and I'm glad with all the turn out because we weren't sure because of how late we ended up advertising and getting it out there but the communities been great and everyone's been willing to help out too which has been great."

McDonald spent her time at every event this week making sure they ran smoothly and she, along with other volunteers, noticed the turnout at every event.

"As for volunteering there was only a few of us but each time we hosted an event it was like entirely packed," said one of MJ Pride's volunteer's, Josh Burris. "I think it's great to know the communities like accepting of all that."

Saturday marked the end of Pride Week, with the annual Pride Parade taking over Main Street in the afternoon. Regina and Saskatoon's pride organizations made the trip down to take part in the parade, along with representatives from Saskatchewan Pride Network.

The parade was full of colours and smiles from everyone taking part, as they knew that they could walk proudly as a group downtown and be accepted by the community.

"It's great seeing the support from the community and having everyone get involved because that's the point of Pride Week," McDonald said. "It's to get everyone involved, not just the LGBTQ community, it's to get Moose Jaw as a community involved and getting to know people in the LGBTQ community."

Pride Week ended Saturday with a Pride Market in Crescent Park after the parade and an after party to celebrate the week in the evening.

This year's Pride Parade took place 25 years after the very first one was held in Moose Jaw, back in 1993.
