Premier Scott Moe has tested positive for COVID-19 on a rapid antigen test. This news comes from an email sent by the Deputy Chief of Staff.

The email states, "Premier Moe is experiencing no symptoms and routinely monitors his status through testing. All close contacts have been notified."

Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Saqib Shahab is considered a close contact. Shahab says he is testing regularly and monitoring his symptoms.

His last negative test was the evening of January 9 and he first tested positive on Thursday. The premier will self-isolate for 5 days and will continue working from home.

Official Opposition NDP Leader, Ryan Meili provided this statement in response to the premier testing positive.

“Wishing the premier and everyone in Saskatchewan who has contracted COVID-19 a speedy recovery. The premier has his booster dose, which puts him in a good position to recover quickly. We know Omicron is spreading rapidly through our communities - if you haven't yet gotten your shot, book yours today.

This is a good reminder to follow Dr. Shahab’s advice on wearing medical grade masks and to avoid unnecessary gatherings. The fight against COVID is far from over and we cannot let our guard down.

Given the premier did not do a rapid antigen test before visiting a school in La Loche and touring northern communities or before hosting a media event in the legislature, I encourage the premier’s office to work with public health to ensure all potential close contacts have been notified.

Saskatchewan people pull together when times are tough. After two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s more important than ever to work together to keep one another safe.”

Meili also took to Twitter today to wish Moe a speedy recovery.
