Premier Scott Moe is in Washington, D.C. attending the winter meeting of the National Governors Association along with a delegation of the Council of the Federation led by New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs and Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

A total of 44 United States governors have confirmed they will attend the meeting, which provides an opportunity for premiers to build relationships with their American counterparts.

“Saskatchewan is one of the most trade-oriented provinces within Canada, and the United States continues to be Saskatchewan’s most significant trading partner,” said Moe. “With the food, fuel, and fertilizer that the United States and the rest of the world need, our province is part of a closely integrated supply chain that supports thousands of jobs on both sides of the border.”

The meeting is scheduled to have a roundtable on Canada-U.S. relations and a session on the implications of the new U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement.

Moe said he looks forward to the opportunity to build essential relationships and further advance Saskatchewan’s trade interests.

Saskatchewan exported $11.8 billion and imported $7.5 billion worth of goods to the United States in 2017.
