The Moose Jaw Police Service is warning residence after a number of residents have reported receiving fraudulent phone calls.

The calls are coming from an individual claiming to have kidnapped a loved one. They instruct the family member to drive to a bank and wait for further instructions.

Police say on some occasions a child in distress can be heard in the background, which is believed to be a recording and the information about the loved one is believed to be obtained through social media.

Police are reminding the public to avoid posting personal information on social media, in particular family member names and phone numbers.

If you receive one of these calls, attempt to contact your loved one to confirm their safety. If you are unable to reach them, contact the Moose Jaw Police Service.
