Nearly 200 police officers from around Canada were in Moose Jaw on Thursday and Friday for the Police Officer Wellness Conference, held at the Heritage Inn.

One of the presenters was Dr. Lois James, who spoke about managing officer fatigue from the individual level.

"My background is in psychology and my interest in police officers came from the unique nature of their work and being exposed to all these officers that were involved in my experiments."

Dr. Bryan Vila was another speaker who was a former police officer, and explained how that helped him related to those that he spoke to about officer fatigue.

"Cops are independent people and need to be confident in there own decision making. They may disagree and we can talk about that based on some of the facts we see, but they never think that I don't know what they've been through because I was a police officer in the ghettos and I've been around, so that can help."

Dr. Vila added that when officers are fatigued at work it makes them less healthy in the short term, less able to cope with certain situations and can make them less resilient which can truly affect their work.
