For the next month, Moose Jaw Police and RCMP are taking part in the province-wide firearm amnesty program. The intent is to try and collect unwanted or potentially illegal firearms to keep them from being used in a future crime or from falling into the wrong hands.

Police have said the collection is almost a no questions ask situation but Sgt. Kevin Pilsworth said the most important part of the program is that fact that the officers will be coming to you, not you to them.

"We don't want people transporting firearms or bringing firearms to our police service. They simply need to give us a phone call and schedule a time that works."

Sgt. Pilsworth said the goal of the program is to create a safer community.
