Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s second town hall meeting of 2019 saw him at the University of Regina Thursday night.

Ahead of the question and answer session, Trudeau was greeted by a honking 'Yellow Vest Canada' truck convoy which circled the perimeter of the campus.

Inside, Estevan farmer Jason Leblanc asked Trudeau about the carbon tax. "Why would you charge a carbon tax on something that is not even proven to be factual, and taking money away out of our pockets?"

Trudeau responded, "Let's start with the fact that climate change is real. By putting a price on pollution, we incentivize people to pollute less. It's basic economics."

In addition to the carbon tax, Trudeau faced criticism for buying the $4.5 billion dollar Trans Mountain pipeline. Dressed in an "I love pipelines" t-shirt, steelworker Courtland Klein questioned the Prime Minister about current policies on pipelines and the businesses that make them. The PM responded, "As you pointed out, it was not in my [election campaign] platform, that I was gonna buy a pipeline for Canadians. But it was in my platform that I was going to grow the economy and protect the environment at the same time."

Immigration and cross-border trade with the United States were also topics of discussion throughout the evening.

Before leaving Regina, Trudeau will take part in a roundtable discussion regarding freshwater management. He's also scheduled to attend an announcement with regard to geo-thermal energy development.
