For another year, Phoenix Academy is looking to give their students a little Christmas cheer, and they need the community's to help to 'adopt a student' for Christmas.

Phoenix Academy strives to give students enrolled everything they need to achieve academic and emotional success. Whether it be through schedule changes or an individualized program, they want students to do the best they can. With this in mind, they are also giving gifts to their students to teach another kind of lesson.

Principal Jeff Lynnes tells us the purpose of this program.

"The idea that we had behind this was we wanted to give the students an idea of what Christmas was really about and we wanted to give them an unconditional gift that had no strings attached. We've done it for a few years now and its been overwhelmingly successful, the community really reaches out and gives to the students."

Every year they've managed to reach their goal, but that's only because of continued support Moose Javians have aided in making their Christmas extra special. Even if you don't want to give a monetary donation, they'll accept any small gift you'd be able to give. In the past, they've received toiletries, food hampers, gift cards, and warm clothing.

"Well they can contact the school, they can either donate an actual gift or if they want to do a financial gift that would be great too” says Lynnes, “If people wanted to give a gift, maybe socks, mitts, toques, shampoos, razor blades, that can all be expensive for people out on their own. You can make a donation or gift cards."

This will also benefit the school after Christmas. If they raise enough money and have some leftover, it still goes back to the students through their student care and graduation fund.

"Every student gets 'adopted' and then based on the student's needs, sometimes they will get a Christmas hamper and/or extra clothing, depending on what their need is. Any money that we have leftover we put toward the Student Care Fund that we can use during the year if a student needs something like shoes or boots."

If you'd like to donate, you can call 306-694-1289 or email the staff at Phoenix Academy to set up a time for dropping off your donation or having someone pick it up.
