Avid gardeners in Moose Jaw have begun the process of pre-planting and preparing for the summer.

"Now's the perfect time to be buying your seeds, your soil - get that all started," said Leslie Cornell, Owner of Cornell Design and Landscaping. "You can start your seeds inside and then that way they are a little further ahead when you put them outside."

Pre-planting is a relatively simple concept. All it takes is potting some soil and planting your seeds. Keeping them nice and watered and in the sunlight will help them sprout. Cornell warns about the plants stretching, though. Since most summer plants need a warm weather climate, they 'reach' for the sunlight and stretch and become droopy. If you want to keep them compact for planting, it's best to put them outside when it's warmer to give them sunlight.

It will still be a little while until people can begin planting outside.

"Well for planting the ground is still frozen," Cornell said. "The first of June will probably be safe planting this year, but the trouble is all the selection will be picked over if you wait until then. So what's going to happen is people are going to start buying their plants."

Greenhouses like Cornell Design and Landscaping have begun opening, so you can get prepared and begin pre-planting for you garden.
