The Paws for Pledges Radiothon wrapped up their eighth annual fundraiser Friday evening, after broadcasting live for 12 hours, all in support of the Moose Jaw Humane Society.

Over the 12 hours, Country 100 and the Humane Society were able to raise a whopping $76,489.

Since the radiothon began eight years ago, over half a million dollars has been raised, all to help fund healthcare for the animals being sheltered, as well as food and other essentials.

Dana Haukaas with the Moose Jaw Humane Society said the shelter's vet bill for October alone was over $10,000.

"The average for a dog that comes in unfixed; by the time we get them fixed, we get them microchipped, their lifesaving vaccines, it's easily $300. For a cat, it's probably $200 by the time we get them fixed. Those vet expenses, from the vaccines, the microchip, and the spaying and neutering are by far the shelter's biggest expense each year."

Part of the money raised came from an online Facebook auction which was held over the last week, which ended up raising over $11,300.

Fundraiser Coordinator, Amanda Tetarenko.

"We had 248 items in total. The businesses were super generous. We had lots and lots of gift cards which is a great way to for the businesses to bring business back in. Usually, people go in and spend more than the gift card is and they might get new customers. It was amazing this year."

"Vet bills are so high that when we get something like that, it's like that's just going to clear the cost of the spays and the neuters and the various things that we have to do for the animals."
