An annual tradition took place Saturday morning as the Moose Jaw Flying Club held their Fly-In Breakfast at the Moose Jaw Municipal Airport.

Moose Jaw's Flying Club is one of the oldest clubs in Western Canada. After World War One, the government-sponsored flying clubs across Canada to train pilots, so when another war broke out, they'd already be trained and there would be pilots for the military.

"The Moose Jaw Flying Club started under those circumstances back in the 20's, so it goes a long, long, long way back," explained the Flying Club's, Gerald Julian. "It's sort of died and been revived many times over the years and in its current format it's just essentially a group of people interested in flying, primarily pilots."

With being such an old group, the Flying Club tries to keep their awareness, and the Municipal Airport's awareness, alive by holding the Fly-In Breakfast.

"Many people aren't really even aware that the municipal airport is even out there," Julain said. "It's kind of out of sight, out of mind and it's not right in town or even that close to town. A lot of people aren't aware that it's there, we use this event as a means of trying to improve awareness amongst the people of Moose Jaw that the airport is there, that it's a valuable resource to the city."

The Fly-In also welcomes many pilots in, the clear skies and forecast saw over 15 planes land in the airport and a few parachuters jumping above. Giving the 200 people who came out for the breakfast a chance to meet some of the pilots and jumpers.

The Moose Jaw Municipal Airport is located on Highway 301, just off of the Trans Canada Highway heading east, and under 10 minutes outside of town.
