Over 200 lbs. of cannabis were seized on Wednesday night on Highway 1.

Just before 9:30 pm, the White Butte RCMP were contacted by the Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, after a semi was stopped for a vehicle inspection. The stop happened on Highway 1 East, between Pense and Grand Coulee.

223 lbs. of cannabis were discovered in the trailer, which led to the driver, 51-year-old Cesk Kalaj of Milton, Ontario, being arrested.

Kalaj was charged with one count of Possessing Cannabis for the Purpose of Distributing under the Cannabis Act, and one count of Possessing Unstamped Cannabis under the Excise Act.

Kalaj has appeared in court and was released with conditions. He's scheduled to make his next court appearance on February 17, 2021.

White Butte RCMP continue to investigate.
