An accident four kilometres west of Chaplin during Monday's storm has left one person dead and another injured.

Morse RCMP responded to an eight-vehicle collision at around 2:15 p.m. that involved five semi units, a large cube-style van, a truck, and a passenger van.

According to police, the passenger van and a semi collided, followed by a second semi hitting the first one. Subsequently, three other semis, the cube van, and a truck then collided with the passenger van.

The driver of the second semi, a 22-year-old man from Calgary, was pronounced dead at the scene. An occupant from one of the other semis was treated for what was described as minor injuries.

Also called to the scene were the Herbert Fire Department, EMS, and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

Traffic is still being diverted in the area and it is expected to remain that way for most of Tuesday.
