A case of two whitetail deer fawns shot and left to waste over the weekend of December 1st, 950 meters southwest of Halbrite, SK has conservation officers asking for the public's help.

"I was notified of it about 1:00 pm on December 3rd," explained Conservation officer, Jordan Kreutzer. "I got out there and took a look. After all my investigating was done, I dug around for bullets in the actual carcass. I couldn't find any. I took internal temperatures of it from the femur and it came back that the two animals were shot over the weekend. They were two whitetail deer fawns so they would have just been born in the spring."

According to the Wildlife Act, the edible game cannot be left to waste in a field.

"Right now we don't have much to go on other than vehicle tracks in the field and the two animals that were laying there."

Vehicle tracks were noticed driving to the deer but there is no evidence of anyone walking around the scene. The fact that the crime occurred while the southeast was covered in a thick layer of fog is hampering the investigation.

"Hopefully somebody was in the area on December 1st or 2nd and saw or heard something and maybe point us in the right direction."

Those with any information are urged to leave an anonymous tip at Saskatchewan.ca/tip or call 1-800-667-7561 or text #55555 from a SaskTel cell phone (phone calls only, no texts).

"It's completely anonymous and there are potential cash rewards available if the information leads to apprehension."

"We're looking for any and all information that somebody may have whether they think it's relevant or not. If they were in the area over the weekend and maybe saw a vehicle that was suspicious or saw someone driving through a field somewhere else. We're just looking for any information that we can get a better lead on this investigation."
