The Northwest Community Association is hoping to make the Regal Heights subdivision the next in town to feature a spray park.

Vice-chair of the association, Craig McLeod, says they have been in talks with the Parks and Recreation Department to make the park a reality, but that it will take some work to raise the funds needed for construction.

"There are about 600 kids roughly in the Regal Heights area. Our goal here is to try and raise about $250,000 and we are looking to do that through fundraising initiatives which is what we are working on right now in the background."

McLeod says the association has applied for provincial and federal grants, hoping to receive a boost to their fundraising. He said they hope to have the spray park built in the summer of 2023, but that if they receive a grant, it could be completed earlier.

"The goal is to put the park up in between the hockey rink and soccer fields on 13th avenue northwest, in the park that's right by the 7-11. We would like to add some sitting areas and picnic tables in there too. Our reference guide was the East End spray park, that's what we're modeling this after."

If any residents in the area or local businesses would like to help out or provide fundraising ideas, you are encouraged to contact the Northwest Community Association on Facebook.
