With childcare becoming more and more difficult to come by in the notorious city, one organization has moved into a new facility hoping to provide more help for families in need.

The Northwest Child Development Centre held it's grand opening Tuesday showcasing its new facility located just a couple of doors down from their previous place.

"It is going very good," says Crystal Kober-Mcubbing, Director of the centre, "There is a huge need in Moose Jaw for childcare so we thought we would help meet some of those needs, and at the same time we created some employment for those in need, so it was a win-win!".

The Ministry of Education helped make the move possible by providing a total of $282,000 to help assist with the expansion.

"I feel that we were blessed to get this 'one time shot' from the government. I feel like somebody was shining down on us and they had a little bit of money that they wanted to put back into the community, and we were just the lucky ducks that got it."

"We had quite a smaller centre, and then on November 1, we made the switch to this centre. We have 79 kids at this centre and had 35 in the old centre. Quite a bit more, we've doubled our kids and doubled our staff."

The new childcare facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment, furniture and children's books.

MLA for Moose Jaw Wakamow Greg Lawrence was on hand at the grand opening on behalf of Education Minister Gordon Wyant, "Our government is pleased to be able to offer financial assistance for the relocation and expansion of this child care centre. We know that the services offered at the Northwest Child Development Centre will be of significant benefit to families in and around our community."
