The dust has now settled for those who patrol the border, and things are starting to return to normal.

Chief Keely with US Customs and Border Protection had a few exciting months with the North Portal Border Crossing as strikes around the United States were making it hard for many to do their jobs, but that wasn't the case for some.

"Basically it didn't affect anything here, we were operating business as normal."

"Actually at our crossing, our administrative staff are essential employees, so they were at work every day too," added Keely.

In regards to how it affected the border crossing as a whole, "Nothing really out of the ordinary here, we were still open and conducting business as normal. For the borders, it didn't really affect a lot."

Most if not all employees are back to their usual responsibilities and duties now that the shutdown is over.
