Motorists in the city have most likely noticed by now that the southbound inside lane of Mainstreet North has been blocked off, right in between Canadian Tire and the Civic Centre plaza. However, there hasn't exactly been a lot of work happening in the area yet.

Communications Manager with the city of Moose Jaw, Craig Hemmingway, says while there is no construction happening at the moment, they had to block off the lane for safety reasons

"We've put traffic restrictions in place surrounding a portion of the CN train track that is in an unsafe condition right now. We've got blockades surrounding that so no one has to drive over that."

"Like any challenge, when you have these issues pop up in the middle of winter you can't really fully repair them until construction weather and construction season arrives. We will coordinate that work with CN, so until things like getting contractors and getting people in to do it properly - until those conversations have been had its really difficult to make an estimate on when it might be finished."

Hemmingway continues by saying the city will have a much better estimate of when the barricades will be cleared, once they are able to get their shovels in the ground.
