As Valley View continues to move its residents in preparation of closing, three people living at Valley View were accepted into the Clare Parker Homes, a brand new group home in Regina.

More than 100 people have already re-homed from Valley View, and with more set to go by the end of the week, the number continues to rise.

Bob Martinook, Executive Director of Community Living Service Delivery in Regina, says although they've been able to move many people, they have taken the time to find them places where they would like to live, not just putting them somewhere random.

"Individuals and their families were able to identify people they wanted to live with and communities they wanted to live in. So we've honoured those as much as we could and as close as we could. For example, in Moose Jaw, originally 71 individuals identified that they wanted to live in Moose Jaw, but through the planning process and in talking through families, and the individuals, in the end it's going to be about 40 folks want to live in Moose Jaw, and the rest have chosen to move closer to family off in other communities."

Martinook adds that this re-homing process has taken a bit of time.

"The last admission to Valley View was in 2002 so really we've been slowly transitioning individuals out of Valley View and have been closing the facility since 2002, but the formal announcement was in 2012."

The first resident to be formally moved out was in 2014 and the facility will be closed for good in December of 2019.
