The Government of Saskatchewan announced last month that they would be switching to a new company to provide the province with photo radar cameras.

The new company called RedFlex is based in Australia and provides traffic solutions for many locations in Canada and other parts of the world.

The swap will save the province a handfull of money as well. The company Saskatchewan used to get photo radar cameras from was an Edmonton based private company and charged approximately 2 million dollars per year for 8 cameras in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, and Regina, along with the mailing of the tickets.

RedFlex will provide cameras for the next 5 years for only $740,000 annually, or 60% less.

Tyler McMurchy is Media relations with SGI and gave more detail.

"Of course those operating costs are paid for by ticket revenue that's generated. Optimally people would not speed past these clearly marked photo speed enforcement zones and there would be no tickets."

McMurchy added more detail about the cameras themselves.

"The new system is called the 'Radar Cam System and the company says it is designed for enforcing speed in all conditions like fog, rain, vehicle spray, and snow."

RedFlex took over this month and new cameras are already being seen.
