The balance of rights between rural landowners and members of the public is being re-vamped.

The Government of Saskatchewan is passing new legislation that seeks to clarify existing laws and also improve consistency in the rules in regards to trespassing.

Justice Minister and Attorney General Don Morgan explained the new legislation.

"This legislation strikes the right balance between rural landowners and those wishing to access rural property for recreational purposes. We believe this legislation will promote communication with rural landowners, while still giving Saskatchewan people the opportunity to take advantage of our beautiful rural landscapes for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and hiking."

The improved legislation takes some of the responsibility off of the rural landowners' shoulders and places more responsibility on the shoulders of those wishing to access the property.

Members of the public will now gain access from the landowner through the landowner giving consent to recreational activities.
