Passing lanes on Highway No. 2, heading from Moose Jaw through to Buffalo Pound, are nearly complete and are scheduled to open next week.

"One set of passing lanes are scheduled to open, weather permitting, mid-week next week. This will add additional opportunities to pass safely, and make sure there's better traffic flow. The passing lanes are located north of Moose Jaw and south of Tuxford. There are 2 passing lanes, total distance of about 4 1/2 km." explained Steve Shaheen, the Senior Communications Consultant with the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure

"With all our projects, the biggest factor is weather, which has been pretty good up until now. We've had a few rain showers that have maybe slowed things down, but they've been working on those since mid-May. They're scheduled to wrap up next week."

Work is still in progress on the second set of lanes on Highway No. 7, just west of Rosetown, which is set to be finished by the end of July.

 "With all our highway improvement projects, they're done with safety in mind. Passing lanes can reduce collisions by about 25%. It's 80% less cost than the full twinning. In recent years we've completed passing lanes on highways 5,6,7, as well as 10. We're now working on more passing lanes on Highway 10 around the Yorkton area, highways 5 and 7, as well as 6 and 39." said Shaheen, who went on to say that the response from local governments, first responders, as well as the public,  has been universally positive so far.
