From time to time, you might wake up feeling like you just went to bed.  Sluggish and exhausted, you make your way through the day, longing for bedtime to arrive.  Now imagine that every day, even if you slept a full eight hours.

That's what it's like to suffer from sleep apnea, a condition that restricts your breathing and prevents a restful sleep.  Former Moose Jaw Mayor Glenn Hagel suffers with it but is excited to hear the province is now helping to drop the price on a machine that helps treat it.

"The opportunity to just have a normal life with normal energy can be a really, really big deal." explained Hagel. "It all starts with acquiring a CPAP machine then being able to appreciate just what a huge different in the quality of life that you enjoy."

Hagel adds that it's not just the quality of life but the safety that comes with being rested.  Sleep apnea sufferers have reportedly fallen asleep or drifted off behind the wheel or in other dangerous situations. Hagel says there can be times where a patient can simply fade out of a conversation or "gap out".

The province will use a bulk purchasing policy to help drop the price of a continuous positive airway pressure machine from $1,500 to $275 while low income residents will be fully covered. Hagel says he couldn't imagine living without his CPAP machine now that he knows the benefits.
