October is the start of crunch time for many crews and contractors in the city.

With that in mind, the city is advising residents that one local detour is going to look a little different for the next month, and a second project will be putting shovels in the ground this week.

One project that has been disrupting a portion of residents mostly on the east side has been the bridge restoration work on 1st Avenue South East near the entrance to Wakamow Valley.

"We're trying to complete as much construction as possible that the weather will allow," explained Craig Hemingway, Communications Manager for the city. "We've got a storm sewer project along 1st Avenue South East, so that's going to extend the detour that has been in place for the bridge construction further south on 1st Avenue South East."

Due to some necessary work to complete the bridge, crews are rearranging the detours in that area along with barricades as well.

Another project in a high traffic area that could disrupt some drivers this week is on Manitoba Street, as crews continue to work in Moose Jaw's downtown area.

"Starting on Monday the intersection of 3rd Avenue North East and Manitoba Street is going to be blocked to traffic. There is one lane of eastbound traffic flowing right now all the way along Manitoba from Main Street so certainly eastbound traffic will have no issues, but any westbound traffic is going to be detoured."

Hemingway also added that no other projects are beginning to his knowledge for the start of the month however, he did want to remind residents of other current work taking place.

"Nothing beginning, of course, we have water main replacement continuing along 12th Avenue South West and currently the intersection of 12th Avenue South West and Coteau is blocked. That blockage will continue for about another two to three weeks, weather dependent, and we hope to have the project done by the end of the month."
