Starting in the New Year, you'll be able to drop off your single-use and rechargeable batteries for recycling down at SARCAN.

The provincial government has partnered with the non-profit environmental stewardship organization, Call2Recycle, to collect, and recycle the hazardous household materials.

As part of the new program, an environmental handling fee will be paid at the point of purchase depending on the size of the battery and the chemistry type. For example, fees for AAA and AA batteries are $0.02 and $0.04, respectively.

Before you bring in your batteries, make sure to cover the conduits on each end with a non-conductive tape like packing tape, duct tape, or electrical tape.
