Talon Regent is ready to hit the ground running with his campaign.

Regent, a local business owner and lawyer, will be running to unseat Conservative Member of Parliament Tom Lukiwski during the federal election after being elected as the New Democratic Party's candidate for the Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan on Saturday.

"It's going to be a very tough and gruelling process, but I want to have a lot of fun with it," said Regent. "I'm producing videos that I'll be sharing on Facebook that are quite upbeat."

Regent has been thinking of running for nearly seven years now and finally decided to commit to the process.

"I chose to run for three specific reasons, I like to call them the three Es, they are the environment, the economy, and the ethics," said Regent.

"On the environmental side, the Liberals just are not doing enough, the carbon tax is ineffective at allowing us to hit our emission targets, and they bought a pipeline that they can't get built. The Conservatives have no interested in finding real legitimate solutions, they're obsessed with getting the carbon tax revoked and they refuse to look at alternatives.

Regent feels the NDP are prepared to put forward the bold policy changes that will necessary to protect Canada from climate change. He would also like to see a decentralized solar power grid to reduce the cost of power and emissions.

"On the economic side, the Liberals made many promises in the last election, one, in particular, was that they were going to close a bunch of loopholes that allowed ultra-rich individuals to avoid paying their fair share of taxes, when they got into power, they totally ignored their campaign promises," said Regent.

"They’ve shown time and time again, they’re not interested in helping low and middle class individuals, they’re not interested in helping small business, they’re interested in helping criminally sanctioned corporations, like Loblaws and SNC Lavalin."

After four years with a Liberal Government and nine years with the Conservatives in power before that, Regent feels its time for a change in that regard.

"We’ve got a cycle that continues to perpetuate itself where we kick out the Liberals because of their scandals, we vote in the Conservatives who within four years end up with their own scandals," said Regent. "The cycle has to stop, we must break that cycle."

Regent intends on keeping his campaign very positive and upbeat.

The Federal Election is set for Oct. 21.
