The NDP held a media release last week to call out to the Federal Government to make self-isolation mandatory for children who come into contact with a positive COVID-19 case.

Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili and Opposition Education Critic Carla Beck spoke in the release and put forward the crisis Saskatchewan is in during the 4th wave.

Meili talked about how Premier Scott Moe is nowhere to be found.

He also spoke on Moe is refusing to ask for help and putting politics before people and how his choices to be absent and not put forward a plan are killing citizens.

Moe stopped holding weekly COVID-19 press conferences with health officials in July and it was said that that decision was pointless. After Moe had called off those meetings, vaccination rates decreased and positive cases with the Delta variant went up.

Meili also called out the Health Minister and the Minster of Education for being absent in this time of crisis.

"This isn't a conversation that you wait until it's too late. This is a conversation that should have been had weeks ago already," says Meili who also called out to Scott Moe to release his plan that Meili says he's kept hidden.

Not only is the province in a crisis but there's a crisis just within Saskatchewan schools.

250 schools across the province have had positive COVID-19 cases within the last 2 weeks.

Currently, children are not required to self-isolate if they become a close contact with a positive COVID-19 case.

Beck says, "it doesn't make any sense for kids who've been in contact with someone who is sick with COVID-19 to be able to go back to school and crowded classrooms and crowded daycare centers."

She also says it's proving to be dangerous as more and more children are being administered into the hospital.

Both Beck and Meili believe that it's not too late for the government to change this by putting out isolation mandates for children who become close contact and having vaccination requirements for staff. Beck told the conference that children could lose another school year if there is no change.

Beck also called for a proper vaccine rollout plan for kids in school and begged that Saskatchewan prioritize the children, public health, and not be the last in the country to do the right thing.
