An NDP budget forum was held in Moose Jaw on Sunday afternoon at the Moose Jaw Public Library.

The forum was open to the public and Moose Jaw residents were encouraged to come, listen and discuss key points.

Trent Wotherspoon NDP MLA explained that he felt our city's residents were engaged and that they had a good showing of support.

"This was a good turnout," detailed Wotherspoon. "I think they threw it together somewhat last minute and I think it was a full room, so it's really good to see people in Moose Jaw showing up for a budget forum and caring about what's in the budget and caring about their community and their province."

Wotherspoon also noted what he thought were key priorities for our provincial government and where their focus needs to be.

"Our classrooms need an investment right now, and so do mental health and addictions services. These are two areas so important to the lives of people today and of communities, so we need to get those dollars."

On the subject of jobs in our province, Wotherspoon said he thinks there needs to be more opportunities for people and doesn't feel that the recent documentation and plan for Saskatchewan is working towards that.

"[Job growth is] very importantly we need to create jobs and fire up this economy; this budget fails to do so."

The discussion touched on many issues and Wotherspoon noted he was very satisfied with the event.
