Federal Safety Minister Ralph Goodale is being asked by an NDP Member of Parliament to use ‘all legitimate tools’ to make sure the RCMP looks into women’s claims of forced sterilizations.

Lawyer Alisa Lombard told a Senate Human Rights Committee about an alleged coerced sterilization that happened at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in December 2018.

Vancouver-Kingsway NDP Member of Parliament Don Davies asked Goodale in a letter to look into multiple allegations of forced and coerced sterilizations throughout Canada.

The RCMP, meanwhile, said they have conducted a preliminary review of its national database and found they have no records of specific complaints to look into.

The provincial health authority says it is looking into that woman’s complaint, and more than 100 women have come forward with allegations to a Saskatchewan-based law firm.
