A missing monument from the old Moose Jaw Cemetery has sparked a mystery that also has some good news.

Councillor Crystal Froese sits on the Heritage Advisory Committee and says they learned the headstone for the only First Nations women to be buried in that cemetery, disappeared and so the committee was looking to replace it.

"We went back to the cemetery and low and behold, somebody else had taken it upon themselves to replace it. It had been stolen sometime over the summer," explained Froese.

"No one seems to know who the generous person was who actually paid for this to be put in place and whoever you are, thank you!"

The cemetery and the stories that it holds are considered a valuable heritage site in Moose Jaw, dating back to 1890s.
