The Moose Jaw Multicultural Council Inc. (MJMC) and the Moose Jaw Newcomer Welcome Centre held their AGM to discuss their annual report and their past year

With close to a thousand clients and a vast amount of services, they had a lot to discuss.

"Honestly, when we look back through the year, and there's so many services that we provide to so many people and it's, it's honestly overwhelming and sometimes you wonder like how do we do that, right," said Executive Director of the MJMC, Stefanie Palmer. "You know, I give many many thanks and attribution to our staff because we have an amazing team here."

The services they provide includes daycare, information and orientation sessions, referrals, Settlement Workers in Schools, homework clubs, language assessments and training, and employment workshops to name a few.

Their report shows that their information and orientation services were utilized 4037 times over the year and their school orientation was used 2913 times.

They also said goodbye to members of their board at their AGM as their terms had expired. Director's Lyudmila Tomas, Mary Tkach Vangsnes, and Yovnne Bernard had transitioned out of the board.

"Just a big thanks to them for their contribution over the years," Palmer said. "Mary and Yvonne have been on our board and involved with MJMC for a very long time, like probably since the eighties, so we really want to thank them."

On top of that though, they also welcomed in two new members. Balram Rana and Virginia Potosme were welcomed to the group with their own specialties. Rana is an HR coordinator, so they hope he will be able to expand upon the MJMC's own HR policies that haven't been reviewed in a while. Potosme works in financial services, so they hope she can help them in their financial world. Also, Palmer says it doesn't hurt to have a fresh pair of eyes come into the board.

In the year to come, they're looking forward to the new position they just hire for, the South-Central Regional Immigration Partnership Coordinator role, a program that is geared towards community partnership and how our community can be more welcoming and inclusive.

Even with this new position, the MJMC has lots of roles to fill and a lot of volunteers needed. This past year, 41 volunteers accumulated 2320 hours of helping our the MJMC. If you'd like to volunteer, you can either contact the MJMC through phone or email.

"A lot of people don't realize that you know, we're actually quite a large organization in the community and they don't realize that a lot of the time the amount of services that we do provide," Palmer said. "So take a look [at the report] and get familiar with what we actually do in the community."

Their annual report is available online for anyone. In it, you can see the specifics of all they accomplished this past year.
