While there hasn’t been a lot of news about it in the mainstream media, Canada  signed the UN Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration in Marrakesh, Morocco, on December 10th and 11th.

Canada led the charge in the creation of the pact. The global document outlines how countries should deal with migration, instead of leaving the decision up to individual nations. Several European countries have pulled out of the signing of the document. The US never participated in the document.

Tom Lukiwski is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Moose Jaw – Lake Centre – Lanigan. “We oppose the whole open-border approach, and believe that Canadians must be in control of their own borders, and have full autonomy over their immigration systems. That’s why we oppose signing on to this UN Global Compact on Migration. And we will withdraw Canada from it should this current government sign on to it.”

Lukiwski said Canada should set its own limits when it comes to migration. “We have a problem right now in Canada. Since 2017, over 38,000 people have entered Canada illegally from the United States.”

Lukiwski also said it was important to remember that the UN Global Compact for Migration is a non-binding document.
