Music, candlelight, and a message of hope are part of the 21st Annual Mourning Star Christmas Service for the Bereaved.

Hosted by the W.J. Jones & Son & Parkview Funeral chapels, the service offers solace, serenity, and an opportunity to process grief due to the loss of a loved one.

Della Ferguson is a grief support worker with W.J. Jones & Son. "It's an opportunity for the [members of the community] to come into the quietness of our chapel, and to focus on their beloved who has passed on, maybe during this year, or in the past."

Ferguson also said, "It's so important to offer a safe place for people who are bereaved, and to give them opportunities to honour their own feelings. It's our way of understanding the need and meeting that need for a safe, quiet space to process."

She said the service is "...a gift they will be giving themselves in the midst of their loss. This year, the theme is 'Transformed by Love'. It's a time when we bring meaning, a message, and hope."

Those in attendance will receive a memorial ornament in the shape of a dragonfly.

The Mourning Star Christmas Service takes place at the W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home on Thursday, December 6th at 7:30 pm.
